TotalEnergies signs an agricultural ground-mounted solar project with Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd in Vietnam

Tây Ninh, Vietnam, October 23, 2023 – Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd (Hiep Phat), a leading starch manufacturer in Vietnam, has signed a long-term agreement with TotalEnergies to provide a 2.1 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system for both its plant and office’s facility in Tay Ninh, Vietnam. The first ground-mounted solar installation and agri-PV in Vietnam by TotalEnergies, this system will power about 20% of its facility with renewable energy.

With over 3,600 panels installed, the PV system will generate approximately 3,250 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, realising significant cost savings for Hiep Phat and reducing the company’s carbon footprint by about 2,200 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to taking approximately 440 cars off the road or planting over 33,000 trees. Hiep Phat also plans to grow plants below the panels, including herbs for food to grow organic chickens and  develop its agricultural businesses.

Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will fully fund, install and operate the PV system while Hiep Phat will pay for the electricity generated for 20 years, avoiding any upfront costs.

Nguyen Thanh An, Deputy Director of Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd said, “I have been studying solar power application since a long-time and I would like to use renewable energy in our plant to reduce carbon footprint and impact on environment. The cooperation with TotalEnergies is an opportunity for us to implement this plan.”

Elodie Renaud, Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Asia said, “We are pleased to be the chosen energy partner by Hiep Phat, to support their operations with renewable energy. This project is strategic for TotalEnergies as the first agri-PV project in APAC region, setting an example for the segment and highly scalable. As a leading solar service provider for commercial and industrial businesses, TotalEnergies is committed to helping customers to drive down both their energy costs and carbon footprint, and constantly adapting to new market segments. We are dedicated to being a long-term energy partner for Hiep Phat and look forward to more collaboration in the future.”
