TotalEnergies signs a Solar Rooftop Project in India for Sri Kannapiran Mills, a Textile Giant in South India

TAMIL NADU, India, April 8, 2022 – Sri Kannapiran Mills, a leading textile company in Tamil Nadu, signed a long-term agreement with TotalEnergies for a rooftop solar PV (photovoltaic) installation to power 30% of the needs of their facility with renewable energy.

Under the agreement, Sri Kannapiran Mills’ manufacturing site will be equipped with an over 1MWp solar power system installed by TotalEnergies. The system is likely to be running from June 2022. The approximate 1,500 MWh of electricity generated by the system each year will reduce carbon emissions by over 1,200 tons annually, equivalent to taking more than 200 cars off the road.

In addition to reducing the carbon footprint, Sri Kannapiran Mills will be able to increase cost savings with the clean energy produced by system for 25 years without any upfront investments.

Sri Kannipiran Mills, the flagship company of KG Group, is enriched with more than 50 years of experience in the textile industry. Sri Kannipiran Mills actively promotes sustainability and renewable energy in their factory operations. The textile company’s ultimate objective is to minimise the carbon footprint and achieve a cleaner and eco-friendly environment by installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on all their factory roofs for captive consumption using solar energy. This solarisation project will, hence, contribute to the sustainability targets set by Sri Kannapiran Mills.

B Srihari, Managing Director of Sri Kannapiran Mills, Coimbatore said, “Over the last 50 years of our operations, sustainability has always been the core value for Kanniparan Mills. We believe if we have to grow in scale, we need to have sustainable practices at its core. Clean and green power today not only reduces emissions and improves business reputation, but also gives us a competitive advantage as it provides stable and sustainable energy for the long term. As a responsible and growing organization, we are happy to join hands with TotalEnergies in building a long term self-sustainable solar project which will fulfil both our environmental sustainability and cost saving goals.”

Gavin Adda, Head of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Asia, said, “As the leading solar power provider in the region, we are honoured to offer solar solutions that minimise costs and lower the carbon footprint of Sri Kannapiran Mills. TotalEnergies provides its customers peace of mind from a technical, financial and commercial perspective. We are committed to maintaining a business relationship with Sri Kannapiran Mills and working on any future collaborations.”
