Tây Ninh, Vietnam, June 03, 2024 – TotalEnergies has successfully completed the installation of a 2.1 megawatt-peak (MWp) ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system with Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd (Hiep Phat), a leading starch manufacturer in Vietnam. This is the first agri-PV in Asia Pacific by TotalEnergies. The system will power about 20% for both its plant and office’s facility with renewable energy.
With over 3,600 panels installed, the PV system generates approximately 3,250 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, realising significant cost savings for Hiep Phat and reducing the company’s carbon footprint by about 2,200 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to taking approximately 440 cars off the road or planting over 33,000 trees. Hiep Phat also plans to grow plants below the panels, including herbs for food to grow organic chickens and develop its agricultural businesses.
Under the agreement, TotalEnergies fully funded, installed the PV system and will operate it while Hiep Phat will pay for the electricity generated for 20 years, avoiding upfront costs. By utilising solar energy beyond its agricultural applications, this project further adds clean energy production to the Hiep Phat’s core activities.
Nguyen Thanh An, Deputy Director of Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd said, “Exploring solar energy solutions has been our long-term commitment to reduce our environmental impact. Partnering with TotalEnergies has significantly advanced this goal, thanks to their expertise and innovative approach in implementing effective renewable strategies at our site.”
Elodie Renaud, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Asia said, “We are proud to complete our first agri-PV project in the APAC region, making it a model for the segment with great potential for scalability. As a leading solar service provider for commercial and industrial businesses, TotalEnergies is committed to combine its expertise and know-how to help more customers like Hiep Phat in the agricultural sector to drive down both their energy costs and carbon footprint, and support their core business model of poultry husbandry by providing natural shade to animals. We are dedicated to being a long-term energy partner for Hiep Phat inspiring other farmers and look forward to more collaboration in their road of decarbonation and sustainability.”
