How TotalEnergies ENEOS leverages on experience to deliver quality solar solutions

As any business owner worth their salt will tell you, the key to a successful and sustainable business lies in maintaining profits and efficiency while ensuring that costs stay low.

However, this is often easier said than done. With energy demand and inflation rising in Asia, companies now face pressure from higher utility costs, which will erode profitability and reduce efficiency.

As energy costs rise, Asian businesses seek alternatives to maintain profitability and efficiency.

Fortunately, the tropical climates of Asian countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam offer a significant advantage: abundant sunlight. With sunshine nearly all year round, Asia is uniquely positioned to take full advantage of this clean, sustainable resource.

Despite the clear benefits, companies in Asia are sometimes hesitant to adopt solar energy solutions due to concerns like:

  • High Initial Costs: Significant upfront investment is required for solar installations.
  • Reliability Concerns: Worries about consistent energy supply, especially during monsoon seasons.
  • Lack of Familiarity: Limited understanding of solar technology and its benefits.
  • Regulatory Uncertainty: Uncertainty about government policies and incentives for solar energy adoption.
  • Space Requirements: Concerns about the space needed for solar panels, especially in urban areas.
  • Operational Disruptions: Delays or slowdowns as a result of installation work are another reason why some businesses may be reluctant to adopt solar energy.

Recognising these challenges, leading solar energy companies like TotalEnergies ENEOS have developed comprehensive solutions to address these concerns.

By leveraging their extensive experience and innovative technologies, they provide tailored solar solutions to meet the unique needs of businesses in Asia Pacific, overcoming these barriers while achieving sustainable energy goals.

Successful Solar Installations by TotalEnergies ENEOS

Flexible Solar Solutions – Solar Rooftop, Carport, and Cover Way Project

TotalEnergies Corbion, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion specialises in the production of Luminy® PLA bioplastics, derived from renewable resources. Located in Rayong, Thailand, this facility focuses on sustainable manufacturing processes.

Challenges faced

The main challenges included optimising energy use in a high-demand industrial setting and effectively using available space for solar installations without disrupting ongoing operations.

Successes:

TotalEnergies ENEOS installed a solar system with a capacity of 1,250 kW, generating approximately 1.6 GWh of electricity annually.

This project not only reduced operational costs but also effectively utilised previously unused spaces, incorporating solar panels into carports and covered walkways. The installation has significantly lowered carbon emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability efforts at the facility.

Sustainable Integration: Ground-Mounted Solar Project Enhancing Agricultural Efficiency

Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd, a prominent starch producer in Vietnam that emphasises sustainability.

The company decided to install solar panels on its premises to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and lower costs.

Given the scale of the project, it was important that Hiep Phat worked with a reputable solar company—one with a proven track record of performance. This led them to TotalEnergies ENEOS.

Challenges Encountered:

Implementing the ground-mounted solar solution at Hiep Phat involved setting aside a

specific tract of land, which allowed the solar panels to complement the agricultural operations.

Successes:

To kickstart Hiep Phat’s solar initiative, TotalEnergies ENEOS installed a 2.1 MWp ground-mounted solar PV system at the company’s facility. The system generates approximately 3,250 MWh of electricity annually, powering about 20% of the plant and office facilities.

This strategic placement maximised land use efficiency and aligned with the company’s sustainability objectives to leverage underutilised areas effectively.

Additionally, the configuration of TotalEnergies ENEOS’s ground-mounted solar panels at Hiep Phat’s facility supports agricultural activities beneath them.

This innovative setup allows for cultivating herbs and other plants used in the company’s organic chicken farming operations, effectively utilising the shaded space created by the panels.

All of which enhance land use efficiency and contribute to Hiep Phat’s broader agricultural business development goals.

Sweet Sustainability: Solar Rooftop Installation for Indonesia’s Largest Chocolate Manufacturer

Freyabadi Indotama, the largest chocolate manufacturer in Indonesia and part of Fuji Oil Holdings, has long been a leader in the chocolate production industry in Southeast Asia.

The company embarked on a solar initiative to align with Fuji Oil’s 2030 goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 40%, supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Challenges Encountered:

Integrating a 1.1 MWp solar photovoltaic system into Freyabadi’s bustling Karawang factory presented logistical challenges.

It was essential to design an installation that would maintain ongoing manufacturing operations while maximising the use of available rooftop space.

Successes:

TotalEnergies ENEOS installed 2,128 solar panels across 5,400 sqm of rooftop, generating approximately 1,643 MWh annually. This setup meets 12.6% of the factory’s energy needs and will significantly reduce operational costs.

Our team collaborated with Freyabadi Indotama on-site staff throughout the process to coordinate the safe installation of all solar panels without disrupting work.

The team planned and executed the project in phases to make this possible, ensuring that manufacturing activities could continue. This thoughtful approach allowed the factory to maintain productivity while transitioning to sustainable energy solutions.

Installing solar panels at the Freyabadi Indotama factory is expected to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by about 1,306 tons of CO2 annually. For context, this is the equivalent of removing 282 cars from the road.
